Russian String Orchestra Information
Russian String Orchestra, formerly known as The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, was founded in September 1991. The orchestra was formed by Moscow-born and educated violinist and conductor who is known as Misha Rachlevsky. He also founded the Chamber Orchestra of Granada, Spain (1989), and the New American Chamber Orchestra (1984). To celebrate the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin’s 25th anniversary season in 2016, he renamed the Russian String Orchestra (RSO) as his ensemble.
RSO consisted of some of Russia's finest young string players. Some of Russia's finest young string players in its first 28 seasons. The orchestra also toured 26 countries on four continents and released more than 30 recordings. RSO is the winner of several notable awards as well as commissioned and premiered countless works by composers from Russia, the US, and Europe. The discography by the orchestra received widespread international acclaim, including the Diapason d'Or award in France, Critics Choice in The New York Times, Critics Choice in London's Gramophone, and Record of the Year award in Hong Kong.
As per 2019, it was stated that RSO would undertake its third three-week residency at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The orchestra showcased the extent and variety of their acclaimed touring repertoire, beginning from their most profound compositions to popular encores.
