Since its founding more than 45 years ago, the Richmond Pops Band has been serving the local community by presenting Richmond residents with various exciting and engaging musical performances. The band is run entirely by volunteers and operates as a non-profit organization, yet, it has experienced remarkable growth and popularity among a demographically varied and ever-expanding following.
The historic Altria Theater hosts a concert series each year that draws full-house crowds of more than 3,500 people in the audience each time. Since 2000, the band has played 60 times at the Altria Theater and Center Stage, where a combined total of over 220,000 people were in attendance. These shows have all been presented to completely sold-out audiences and are always presented without charge to the general public.
The region is provided with cultural entertainment of the greatest possible standard using these free performances, making it possible for anybody, regardless of economic or social standing, to experience this culture. The majority of our financial support comes from the contributions of individuals. Because of the kindness of our devoted patrons, we have given so many people in the Greater Richmond region the opportunity to participate in remarkable artistic activities.
