Richard Dale Kotzen (February 3, 1970) is an American producer, singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is known by his stage name Richie Kotzen and was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. He is well-known due to his unique combination of different music genres, such as blue-eyed soul, jazz fusion, heavy metal, pop-rock, instrumental rock, funk rock, progressive metal, blues rock, and hard rock. Kotzen began to play the piano at the age of five, and when he saw the band Kiss performing, he was inspired to learn the electric guitar.
Kotzen recorded his self-titled solo album at 19 years old. A year later, after releasing his self-titled debut album, he came up with his second solo album entitled “Fever Dream.” It was the first album by Kotzen that featured his lead vocals. He soon joined the glam-hard rock band called “Poison,” when he was only 21 years old.
Kotzen has signed record deals with different record labels throughout his career, including Shrapnel Records, DGC Records, MCA Records, Spitfire Records, and Headroom-Inc Records.
