Patti LaBelle Information
Patricia Louise Holt (May 24, 1944), who goes by the stage name Patti LaBelle, is an American R&B singer and actor. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. "Godmother of Soul," among other titles, has been bestowed upon her.
In the early 1960s, Labelle began her career as the frontwoman of the singing group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. They had a huge success with "Lady Marmalade" after changing their name to Labelle in the 1970s.
LaBelle became a popular solo sensation. In 1986, less than two years later, LaBelle's album Winner in You and its duet hit "On My Own" with Michael McDonald reached #1 on the Billboard 200.
The critically acclaimed "You Are My Friend" was featured on LaBelle's debut solo album, which launched her successful career. LaBelle rose to solo stardom when 1984's "If Only You Knew" and "Love, Need" became hits.
LaBelle has also found much success as an actor, including a role in the Oscar-nominated film A Soldier's Story. LaBelle had her comedy, Out All Night, in 1992.
She has sold over 50 million recordings globally throughout her seven-decade career. In addition to the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame, LaBelle stars on the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame & the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Rolling Stone ranked LaBelle as one of the 100 greatest singers ever.
On December 10, 2022, a bomb threat forced the cancellation of Labelle's Christmas show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
