Pacifica Quartet Information
The Pacifica Quartet is an American professional string quartet based in Bloomington, Indiana. The current lineup of the group consists of Brandon Vamos (cello), Mark Holloway (viola), Austin Hartman (violin), and Simin Ganatra (violin). The quartet earned prizes in contests such as the 1996 Coleman Chamber Music Competition, the 1997 Concert Artists Guild Competition, and the 1998 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition. Masumi Per Rostad, a violist, took over for Lockwood in 2001. In 2002, the group received Chamber Music America's coveted Cleveland Quartet Award, in 2006, the Avery Fisher Career Grant, and in 2009, Musical America named them "Ensemble of the Year."
The Pacifica Quartet performs throughout the world, including the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In recent years, the ensemble has toured and recorded the quartets of Elliott Carter, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, and Shostakovich and is recognized for traversing whole string cycles of a single composer. The ensemble is currently Quartet-in-Residence and full-time faculty at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington. The Pacifica Quartet is also a Resident Performing Artist at the University of Chicago. From 2003 to 2012, they were the Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Illinois School of Music.
