Oleta Adams Information
Oleta Adams (May 4, 1953) is an American singer and pianist. She was born in Seattle, Washington. It is sometimes stated that she was born in Yakima, Washington, where her family relocated when she was a young girl. She began playing music in the church. Adams endured a lot of rejection before she was given a chance to perform. She relocated to Los Angeles, California, in the 1970s, where she made a demo cassette. However, as opposed to Adams' favorite genre, many music industry figures were only keen on dance music.
Adams relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, on the recommendation of Lee Farrell, her voice teacher, and worked a variety of local gigs. She began working in the early 1980s with two independently produced albums that only achieved modest popularity. Before Game Two of the 1984 American League Championship Series, Oleta Adams sang the National Anthem. When Adams played in the Peppercorn Duck Club at the Hyatt Hotel in Kansas City in 1985, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, the English band Tears for Fears' founders, happened to be there on a US tour.
She received a call from Orzabal and Smith in 1987 asking her to collaborate with them on their next album, The Seeds of Love, as a singer and pianist. She participated in two sessions the following year while touring the Nordic nations.
