North Mississippi Allstars Information
North Mississippi Allstars is a southern blues/rock band based in Hernando, Mississippi, and founded in 1996. The current lineup of the group includes Luther Dickinson (cigar box, vocals, guitar, bass, and drums) and Cody Dickinson (guitar, synthesizer, vocals, drums, and percussion). The band has worked with different record labels such as Tone-Cool, Artemis, Ato, and Songs of the South.
In 2000, the Allstars made their debut appearance on the television when they were invited to the popular show “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” They also served as the house band in the program “Last Call with Carson Daly.”
The first release by the Allstars was a full-length album entitled “Shake Hands with Shorty” that was nominated for a Grammy Award as “Best Contemporary Blues Albums.” 51 Phantom and Electric Blue Watermelon are the followup albums that have also received nominations in the same category. In 2001, the Allstars won a Blues Music Award for “Best New Artist Debut.”
The Allstars backs and tours with John Hiatt and released a collaboration album with him entitled “Master of Disaster.” The band has released a few extended plays such as Shimmy She Wobble, Instores and Outtakes, Electric Blue Watermelon Screwed and Chopped EP, and Upstairs At United, Vol. 4.
Other notable albums by the Allstars include Polaris (2003), Paradise Boston, Ma 11.12.05 (2005), and Do It Like We Used to Do (2009).
