In the Delaware Valley, the MMRBQ festival is as much of a tradition as the hardest rocking event. WMMR has been hosting a day-long festival showcasing modern and vintage rockers in an outdoor setting since 2007. The festival is popularly known to locals as MMR*B*Q. Attendees can groove to as many as ten bands performing genres from hard rock and heavy metal to classic rock during the day. People look forward to MMRBQ every May because it traditionally marks the beginning of the summer festival circuit.
In 2007, MMRBQ performed for the first time in a show hosted by WMMR. This started as a small gathering, but it quickly became an annual tradition for many people. Fuel, Evanescence, and Velvet Revolver were among the many performers at the first annual MMRBQ festival, which took place at what was then known as the Tweeter Center at the Waterfront but is now called the BB&T Pavilion. In this small, intimate venue, fans have grown to expect to see both nationally touring bands and local heroes. Philadelphia is a prominent media market with the seventh largest population in the United States. Hence MMRBQ has followers all across the Northeast. People in the area call the MMRBQ concert the wettest festival of the year because of the high probability of rain in May.
