Miki Howard Information
Alicia Michelle “Miki” Howard (September 30, 1960) is an American actress and singer. She was born in Chicago, Illinois. Howard, along with her family, moved to Los Angeles when she was just nine years old. She was inspired by Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Nancy Wilson. Howard performed in a teen pageant when she was 16 years old.
Howard met Augie Johnson, who was a leader and member of “Side Effect,” right after the show ended. He was in the audience, but after a meeting, he began working with Howard. In 1979, Howard herself joined the Side Effect group. She came as the replacement of Sylvia St. James. She stayed in the group for a few years. In 1980, Side Effect released their album with their new entry of Miki as a female vocalist. The album is entitled “After The Rain.”
In 1986, Howard released her debut studio album named “Come Share My Love.” LeMel Humes produced the album. It peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums. The first hit from the album was its first single of a similar name.
In 1987, Howard embarked on her first concert tour after two of her albums hit singles released. She later released her second album, Love Confessions. LeMel Humes produced several tracks of the album, and from there, both of them became good friends.
Miki Howard released several more albums, including Miki Howard (1989), Femme Fatale (1992), Miki Sings Billie (1993), Three Wishes (2001), I Choose to Be Happy (2015). She has also been nominated many times as well as won a few awards, including Chicago Music Awards (Lifetime Achievement Award) in 2012 and Soul Train Music Awards (Best New Artist) in 1988.
