Mike Garson Information
Michael David Garson (July 29, 1945) was an American musician born in New York City. He has worked with David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, and St. Vincent. Garson was the longest-serving and most regular band member of David Bowie's. Along with Bowie's first and last U.S. gigs, they also played at over a thousand shows worldwide.
Garson lent an avant-garde jazz vibe to the 1973 single "Aladdin Sane" with his long, atonal piano solos, and he also played keyboards and piano accompaniment for the subsequent Ziggy Stardust tour of 1972–1973. Garson made a triumphant comeback in December 2018 to the Los Angeles region for gigs with The Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails, respectively. Mike composed the opening piano song for the 2019 season of HBO's Watchmen, continuing his relationship with Reznor.
Garson was revealed as a contributor to Duran Duran's forthcoming studio album in May 2021. The extra track "People Disappear Here" from Halsey's album, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, features Garson as well. Def Leppard's Diamond Star Halos, released in 2022, included Garson on two tracks. As for the Pretty Reckless cover album Other Worlds, which featured a rendition of "Quicksand" by Bowie, he worked with them on it as well.
