Max Raabe Information
Max Raabe (12 December 1962) is a jazz vocalist who was born Matthias Otto in Lünen, West Germany. He is the conductor and founder of the Palast Orchester.
The music of the Comedian Harmonists and other German dance and film groups from the 1920s and 1930s piqued Raabe's attention, and he began to seek out more vintage films and records from his parents' collection. His first career goal while attending the Berlin University of the Arts was to perform opera as a baritone.
Film composer Raabe also composes original songs and music and covers classic tunes. He and the orchestra have also covered songs by Salt'n'Pepa, Britney Spears, and Tom Jones in a band style typical of the 1920s and 1930s. Additionally, Raabe has appeared in several films directed by German filmmakers, playing the role of a conventional 1920s and 1930s singer and performer.
Raabe made her American performance debut in 2004 in Los Angeles.[6] He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2005 and returned for 2007 and 2010 performances with the Palast Orchester. In 2022, Raabe sang "Ein Tag wie Gold" as he guest starred in Babylon Berlin, a neo-noir series set in the 1920s.
