Marion Meadows is an American composer and soprano saxophonist, in smooth jazz mainly. He was born in West Virginia but spent most of his childhood in Connecticut. In 1990, he released his first solo album, For Lovers Only. He's had several other financially successful albums, a lot of airplay on smooth jazz radio, and traveled all over the world.
He started on the tenor horn but switched to the soprano horn before graduating high school and has been playing it nearly entirely ever since. With a perfect sense of lyricism, he established a signature sharp-edged yet warm, sweet tone. After working with Norman Connors, Meadows became a session player and live musician. With the 1990s For Lovers Only, he made his solo debut and quickly established himself as a smooth jazz radio mainstay.
Meadows was signed to a recording contract with Novus/RCA in 1990 after submitting a solo effort to Steve Backer. That year, he released For Lovers Only on RCA, followed by Keep It Right There in 1992. After touring, he returned two years later with Forbidden Fruit, which concurrently charted in the Top Ten on the jazz and contemporary jazz charts, while Body Rhythm, released in 1995, charted just outside of them.
