David Debrandon Brown (September 25, 1985) is an American singer and songwriter. He is professionally known by his stage name, Lucky Daye. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was raised in a religious community that frowned upon listening to secular music. Still, he found a natural talent for singing and taught himself tunes by adapting stories from children's books. Returning to the music of his youth, Brown became enamored with the likes of Prince, Rick James, Lauryn Hill, and Stevie Wonder, among many others in the vintage R&B genre. He left Atlanta in search of a musical opportunity.
In 2008, Daye established himself as a songwriter and background vocalist, earning credits on tracks by Keith Sweat (from his album Just Me) and Ne-Yo (from their single "She Got Her Own"). He contributed to Boyz II Men's "Believe Us" in 2014. The songs "Enemiez" by Keke Palmer, "10,000 Hours" by Ella Mai, "Down" by Trey Songz, and "Song Goes Off" by Trey Songz, as well as "Strength of a Woman" by Mary J. Blige, both feature his co-writing.
Daye dropped his third extended play, titled Table for Two, on February 12, 2021. This album would be named the "Best Progressive R&B Album" at the 2022 Grammys. To mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Marvin Gaye's album What's Going On, Daye covered Gaye's hit "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)" on May 21, 2021.
