Krush Groove Information
Written by Ralph Farquhar and directed by Michael Schultz, Krush Groove is an American musical comedy-drama released in 1985 by Warner Bros. Pictures. In the film, Blair Underwood makes his feature film debut as the rising star record producer Russell Simmons, whose real name is Russell Walker. The plot is partially based on the early days of Def Jam Recordings.
Simmons served as a script consultant and co-producer for the picture and briefly appeared as Crocket, the proprietor of a nightclub. Krush Groove was shot in 26 days in April 1985 in Queens, Manhattan (including one scene in the Marble Hill slums), and The Bronx for a budget of $3 million.
The renowned Disco Fever, a hotspot in the early days of hip hop that had already fallen on bad times when the film took place, was one of the sites used to film the film. Songs from the 1985 film Krush Groove were published on an album by Warner Bros. Records. There were a total of 1,000 CD pressings of the album.
