Khalid Information
Khalid Donnel Robinson (February 11, 1998) is an American songwriter and singer. He has a record contract with RCA Records and Right Hand Music Group. Khalid was born in Fort Steward, Georgia. Due to his mother and father’s military career, he lived in different locations during his childhood, such as Watertown, New York, Fort Drum, Kentucky, and Fort Campbell. During his high school, Khalid studied musical theatre and singing. He began creating and writing music in high school. In the beginning, he posted his work on SoundCloud.
Khalid reached number 2 on the “Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists Chart” in July 2016. His single name “Location” brought him some major success in his career. After this massive success, he started to get featured in publications such as Rolling Stone, BuzzFeed, Yahoo, and Billboard. Khalid was also featured in the single “Electric” by Alina Baraz in January 2017.
Khalid released his debut album on March 3, 2017, called “American Teen.” The album became successful and got nominated for the Grammy Awards for the category of Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best R&B Song for “Location.” By RIAA, the album got platinum-certified on October 24, 2017, selling over 1,000,000 units. He has won the Best New Artist during the VMA Award in 2017.
Khalid wrote the song “Youth” in May 2018. It was a collaboration with Shawn Mendes, who is a Canadian Artist. On May 20, 2018, Khalid and Mendes performed “Youth” at the “2018 Billboard Music Awards”. On April 5, 2019, Khalid released his second studio album under RCA Records entitled “Free Spirit.” He has headlined tours such as The Location Tour (2017), American Teen Tour (2017-2018), Roxy Tour (2018), and Free Spirit World Tour (2019).
