Kellylee Evans Information
Kellylee Evans (February 7, 1975) is a Canadian jazz and soul music vocalist born in Scarborough, Ontario. She received her education from Carleton University (1993-2000). Evans won second place at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition in 2004. Al Jarreau, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Quincy Jones were among the judges.
Evans released her debut album “Fight or Flight?” in 2006. The album was nominated in 2007 for the Juno Award. Her 2010 album entitled “Nina” was a Juno award-winning album inspired by the work and life of Nina Simone. The album was recorded by the French record label, Plus Loin Music. Evans has toured a lot and opened acts for notable names such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Derek Trucks, Maceo Parker, Dianne Reeves, Chris Botti, Tony Bennett, and George Benson.
Evans has made several notable live appearances, including her debut at Toronto’s Massey Hall, the Imperial Theatre, the Algoma Fall Festival with Michael Kaeshammer, and the Sunfest. She went through several difficulties in her professional career, due to which she had to pause her career for some time. Evans returned to singing in 2018 and was nominated for the Juno Award in the Vocal Jazz Album of the Year for her album entitled, Come On. On May 16, 2019, she returned for her first concert at the Jazz Festival, a Saint-Germain-des-pres.
