Keith Lockhart Information
Keith Alan Lockhart (November 7, 1959) is an American conductor who is currently conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra, Artistic Director of the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, and the Chief Guest Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra. Lockhart grew up in nearby Wappingers Falls and went to the public schools of New York's Dutchess County and began learning piano at the age of 7. In 1981, he graduated from Furman University with a double major in German and piano performance. Later, Lockhart earned a Master's degree in orchestral conducting from Carnegie Mellon University.
In 1978, Lockhart was initiated into Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity by the Gamma Eta chapter at Furman University. His official career began when he started to work as the associate conductor of both the Cincinnati Symphony and Cincinnati Pops orchestras. He also began working as music director of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. In his career, Lockhart has conducted more than 1,900 Boston Pops concerts and led 43 national tours in more than 150 cities in 38 states.
Lockhart also led four international tours to Japan and Korea. He, along with Pops, has made 79 television shows for the long-running television show Evening At Pops. Lockhart has been sighted at some of the most high-profile sporting events like the 2008 NBA finals, the Boston Red Sox Ring Ceremony in 2013, Super Bowl XXXVI, the Red Sox Opening Day game at Fenway Park in 2009, Game 2 of the 2018 World Series at Fenway Park, and a few more.
Lockhart earned the Bob Hope Patriot Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society in 2006. He was also the recipient of the 2017 Commonwealth Award.
