Joseph Anthony Budden II (August 31, 1980) is an American media personality, former rapper, cultural critic, and broadcaster. He is professionally known as Joe Budden. He was born in Spanish Harlem in New York City. When he was thirteen years old, Budden, along with his older brother and mother, moved to Jersey City, New Jersey. He attended Lincoln High School there. Due to his troubled nature, Budden was admitted to a boarding school named Laurinburg Institute, located in North Carolina.
While Budden was in a boarding school, he began working on his rapping skills and took it to the level where he could show his talent. In 2001, he began making music more seriously as in-between years; he went through many problems in his life. He teamed up with producer White Boy who is also known as Dub-B. Budden, along with the producer, began releasing demos and mixtapes. One of his projects was caught by Hot 97 as well DJ Clue, the head of Desert Storm Records.
Budden gained some attention initially in his career when he released a promotional single entitled “Focus.” The single spent seventeen weeks on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaked at number 43. He then released a lead single entitled “Pump It Up” for his upcoming album. The single was released on May 8, 2003.
Joe Budden released his debut album “Joe Budden” on June 10, 2003. He has published several studio albums so far, including Mood Muzik 3: The Album (2008), Halfway House (2008), Escape Route (2009), and several others. He has also won the Grammy Award for the Vibe Next Award in 2003.
