Jean-Yves Thibaudet Information
Jean-Yves Thibaudet (September 7, 1961) is a French Pianist. He is from Lyon, France, and was born to non-professional musical parents. He was introduced to the piano by his mother, who was a somewhat accomplished pianist herself. At the age of five, Thibaudet entered the Conservatoire de Lyon. He began studying piano there and made his first public appearance at the age of seven. At the age of twelve, Thibaudet won a gold medal at the Conservatoire, which gave him the entry pass to the Paris Conservatory. He studied with Lucette Descaves and Aldo Ciccolini there and, three years later, Thibaudet won the premier Prix du Conservatoire. At only 18 years old, he won the Young Concert Artists Auditions, which was held in New York City.
Thibaudet has performed with many of the world's leading symphonic orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the New York Philharmonic, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Thibaudet has also performed in the concert halls of Europe and North America and enjoys a strong fan base in Australia. In 2010, he was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame and, for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, was named Artist-in-Residence during the 2019/20 season. Some of his notable collaborators in performances and recordings are violist Yuri Bashmet, violinists Joshua Bell, Midori, and Julia Fischer, soprano Renée Fleming, mezzo-sopranos Cecilia Bartoli and Angelika Kirchschlager.
Thibaudet's plays can also be heard on the movie soundtracks of Pride & Prejudice, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Portrait of a Lady, Bride of the Wind, and a few more.
