Jazz Funk Soul Information
Jazz Funk Soul is a smooth jazz supergroup featuring Jeff Lorber, Chuck Loeb, and Everette Harp that came together in the middle of the 2010s. Their first album, 2014's Grammy-nominated Jazz Funk Soul, was followed by 2016's More Serious Business. Both 2019's Life and Times and 2022's Forecast paid tribute to Loeb following his passing in 2017, including Jackson, Jr. on guitar. Both albums continued to feature the trio's hooky, groove-oriented style.
Jeff Lorber (keyboards), Chuck Loeb (guitar), and Everette Harp (drums) were the original members of Jazz Funk Soul, a live-touring band that formed in 2013. (saxophone). Each member was already well-established on the smooth jazz scene before they came together. Lorber, who won a Grammy, was a veteran of the industry who had collaborated with legends like Kenny G, Dave Koz, and Miles Davis.
Loeb and Harp had similar resumes, having collaborated with the likes of Eric Marienthal, Fourplay, and Stanley Clarke while contributing to numerous albums that charted in the Top 20. They utilized this knowledge on their first full-length release, 2014's self-titled Jazz Funk Soul on Shanachie. They were nominated for a Grammy for a best contemporary instrumental album due to the record's success. Their second studio album, More Serious Business, came out two years later.
