Jane Monheit Information
Jane Monheit (November 3, 1977) is an American jazz and pop singer and musician from Oakdale, New York. Her music is defined as Vocal jazz, pop standards, and Brazilian. Monheit belongs to a musical family as her father played banjo and guitar, and her mother used to sing. She was attracted to jazz and Broadway musicals at a very young age, with Ella Fitzgerald being a significant influence. Monheit attended Connetquot High School in Bohemia, New York, and at the same time, she started singing professionally. She participated at the Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts and was a runner-up to Teri Thornton in a vocal competition in 1998 at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
Jane Monheit released her first album entitled Never Never Land when she was 22 and recorded several songs from the Great American Songbook, just like Fitzgerald. Soon Monheit started Emerald City Records and released The Songbook Sessions in 2016 as an homage to Fitzgerald. Some of her other notable albums include Come Dream with Me 2001, In the Sun 2002, Live at the Rainbow Room 2003, Taking a Chance on Love 2004, The Season 2005, The Lovers, the Dreamers and Me 2008, The Heart of the Matter 2013, and The Songbook Sessions: Ella Fitzgerald 2016.
Monheit's vocals were featured in the film Never Let Me Go (2010), or the eponymous song, credited to the fictional Judy Bridgewater and written by Luther Dixon. As a guest member, she appeared in David Benoit; Believe, Terence Blanchard; Let's Get Lost, Mark O'Connor, In Full Swing, and a few more.
