Jamie Barton Information
Jamie Barton (October 17, 1981) is an American mezzo-soprano. Barton was born in Rome, Georgia. Jim Barton and Robin Fox are her parents. She made her debut appearance at the Armuchee Elementary School talent show when she was six, singing "Tender Shepherd" from Peter Pan. She graduated from Armuchee High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Shorter College, and earned a master's degree from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in voice performance.
In the summer of 2007, Barton made her professional operatic debut at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, singing the role of Annina, the lead character's maid, in Verdi's La Traviata. Barton graduated from the Houston Grand Opera Studio and performed with the Houston Opera three times in the 2008/09 season, as Ursula in Berlioz's Béatrice et Bénédict, Giovanna in Verdi's Rigoletto, and Mrs. Ronaldson in André Previn's Brief Encounter.
She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the role of the Second Lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute in the 2009/2010 season. She also debuted with the Canadian Opera Company in Verdi's Otello as Emilia, Desdemona's maid. At the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 2011, Barton played Mère Marie in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites.
