James Hunter Information
James Hunter (October 2, 1962) is an English R&B musician and soul singer from Colchester, Essex, born Neil James Huntsman. His music is defined as rhythm and blues. Hunter started his musical career with a band named Howlin' Wilf and the Vee-Jays, which released its first album in 1986 entitled Cry Wolf.
During the 1990s, Hunter spent much of his time playing small clubs in London, which includes the 100 Club on Oxford Street and Weavers Pub in Islington (North London). Hunter sang backup vocals on Morrison's 1994 live album entitled A Night in San Francisco, as well as Days Like This, which was Morrison's 1995 studio recording. Hunter's first album was released on Ace in 1996, entitled Believe What I Say. The soulful style used on this album drew the attention of Van Morrison, who sang backup vocals on "Ain't Nothing You Can Do" and "Turn On Your Love Light" on the album.
The first solo release in the US by Hunter was his 2006 album People Gonna Talk, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.
Some of his other notable studio albums are Kick it Around (1999) and The Hard Way (2008). Hunter also appeared on the following albums; A Night in San Francisco (1994) with Van Morrison, Days Like This (1995) with Van Morrison, and Live at KEXP Volume 5 Track 13: Hunter's "Don't Do Me No Favours" (2009).
