J Boog Information
J Boog is the stage name of American-Samoan reggae musician Jerry Fealofani Afemata, born in Long Beach, California. Since making his debut in 2007 with Hear Me Roar, J Boog has recorded three albums that have reached the top ten of the Billboard Reggae Albums list. After Backyard Boogie (2011) and Wash House Ting (2016), his two subsequent albums peaked at No. 1 on the Reggae Albums chart.
Afemata met Hawaiian reggae artist George "Fiji" Veikoso during a 2005 Hawaii vacation and sent him a mixtape, which Veikoso listened to and thought was great. Afemata's 2007 first album under the moniker J Boog, Hear Me Roar, featured a collaboration with Veikoso. The album entered the Billboard reggae albums list on March 1 and peaked at No. 8 on March 22, 2008.
The Reggae Albums chart was dominated in April 2016 by Boog's EP Rose Petals. After a five-year hiatus, Boog returned to the Reggae Albums list in November 2016 with his third studio album, Wash House Ting, his second consecutive number-one album. On August 31, 2023, Afemata took the stage at the Alaska State Fair in Anchorage, Alaska. "Siva mai" was a hit with the audience when Boog sang it.
