Isaac Delgado Information
Issac Delgado (April 11, 1962) is a salsa and timba performer. At age ten, he enrolled in the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory to study violoncello, an instrument that never piqued his interest. When he was twelve years old, he abandoned his studies at the conservatory to focus on athletics and football. Later, he completed his degree in physical education. Isaac joined the band "Proyecto" when he was 18 at Gonzalo Rubalcaba's (the group's pianist) urging. A fire was lit in his heart for music by this.
He then learned vocal technique with Mariana De Gonish, regarded as one of Cuba's finest vocal teachers. He also enrolled in the "Ignacio Cervantes" school for serious musicians. Delgado joined NG La Banda as their lead singer in 1988. He became well-known after joining this collective. NG was the band that introduced the world to timba, the first major new musical trend in Cuba in decades. As lead singer for NG, Delgado was instrumental in bringing innovation to Cuban dance music.
His vocal abilities propelled him to the top of the rapidly expanding timba industry. Delgado became a masterful composer and melodic improviser in the timba genre. Under Gonzalo Rubalcaba's creative leadership, Delgado formed his band and released the CD Dando La Hora in 1991. The album was awarded the EGREM Prize in 1992. In 1993, he won two EGREM awards for his second CD, Con Ganas, which included Rubalcaba once more.
