Insomnium Information
Insomnium is a melodic death metal band that originated from Joensuu, Finland, and was founded in 1997. The group’s current lineup consists of Niilo Sevänen - bass, vocals; Ville Friman – guitar; Markus Hirvonen – drums; Markus Vanhala – guitar; and Jani Liimatainen - guitar, vocals. Two of the former members of Insomnium are Tapani Pesonen and Timo Partanen. The group’s sound and lyrical themes portray darkness, pain, loss, sorrow, nature, and occasional elements of progressive metal and doom metal.
In the Halls of Awaiting was the debut album by the band released on April 30, 2002. It was followed by Since the Day It All Came Down 2004, Above the Weeping World 2006, Across the Dark 2009, One for Sorrow 2011, Shadows of the Dying Sun 2014, Winter’sWinter’s Gate 2016, and Heart Like a Grave 2019. Insomnium embarked on its first European headlining tour in November 2011, supported by Before the Dawn and MyGRAIN. The band returned to tour the U.K. the following year, as the main supporting act for a British gothic metal band named Paradise Lost. The group has worked with only two record labels so far that are Candlelight and Century media.
