Greg Hawkes Information
Gregory A. Hawkes (October 22, 1952) is an American musician. He is best known for being the keyboardist of the rock band, The Cars. He was born in Fulton, Maryland. He attended Atholton High School and was a member of the Teeth band at the time. He went to Berklee College of Music as well. He went on to play flute, saxophone, and clarinet in several bands, including Martin Mull and his Fabulous Furniture. He was also a member of Richard and the Rabbits, a band comprised of future Cars members Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr.
Hawkes has performed as a solo act with Ocasek, frequently playing keyboards and bass guitar. In 1983, he released his first solo album, Niagara Falls. Guitar, bass, percussion instruments, saxophone, clarinet, and ukulele are among his other instruments. The Beatles Uke, a solo album of Beatles songs performed on the ukulele, was published in 2008.
Hawkes was credited as a writer for the song "Service with a Smile" on Happy Man's second album Crafty Hands, released in 1978. Chris Hughes invited Greg to England in 1989 to record a new Paul McCartney song. He was featured on the song "Motor of Love" from McCartney's Flowers in the Dirt album, recorded in an antique windmill just south of London at McCartney's recording studio.
