Gordon Goodwin, the band's leader, is the band's arranger, composer, pianist, and saxophonist. The Big Phat Band has been nominated for and won multiple Grammys since its inception.
Swingin' for the Fences was the first DVD-Audio album to be nominated for two Grammys and the first recording ever released on DVD-Audio. Goodwin was well established in the Hollywood music industry as a composer for Warner Brothers cartoons when he formed the Big Phat Band in 1999.
