GlobalFest Information
Calgary, Alberta, Canada, hosts GlobalFest annually as a cultural event. Since 2003, The Calgary Fireworks Festival Society has organized the festival annually and is held in August. The OneWorld Festival and the International Fireworks Festival are parts of GlobalFest, with up to six fireworks presentations from up to five international teams.
Elliston Park in Southeast Calgary is the site of the annual International Fireworks Festival, sponsored by local homebuilder Trico Homes. A new country is featured each night of the event. Participants must receive an invitation from the event's organizers to participate. The sky above Elliston Park lights up with fireworks choreographed to the beat of the music. Pyro-musicals are the name given to these orchestrated displays of pyrotechnics.
Cultural pavilions were set up across Calgary during the first few years of GlobalFest, generally in different community centers. Ethnic food, decorations, and performances would frequently be found in the pavilions. Africa, Hispanic America, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Francophone, India, Italy, Mexico, Scotland, Ukraine, and Vietnam were all represented in separate cultural pavilions beginning as a collaborative effort between the International Avenue Arts & Culture Centre and the OneWorld Festival.
