Gillian Welch Information
Gillian Howard Welch (October 2, 1967) is an American singer and songwriter. She is performing alongside guitarist David Rawlings, her musical collaborator. Their austere and somber musical taste blends Appalachian music, bluegrass, country, and Americana. Nine critically praised albums, five under Welch's name, three under Rawlings' name, and one under both Welch's and Rawlings' identities, have been produced in collaboration.
She had two albums nominated for Best Folk Album at the Grammys: Revival (1996) and Time (The Revelator) (2001). Her 2003 album Soul Journey brought an electric guitar, percussion, and a more lively tone to their body of work. She covered traditional songs recorded at her house, All the Good Times (Are Past & Gone), released in July 2020 by Welch and Rawlings.
Welch and Rawlings revealed Woodland, to be published on August 23, 2024, through Acony Records, on July 19, 2024, and released its first track, "Empty Trainload of Sky." Rawlings hasn't released an album since 2017's Poor David's Almanack, while Welch hasn't released an album with original music since 2011's The Harrow & the Harvest.
