Norman Quentin Cook is an English DJ, record producer, and musician. He was born in Bromley, Kent, professionally known by his stage name, Fatboy Slim. Cook played bass for the Hull indie rock band the Housemartins in the 1980s when the group's a cappella cover of "Caravan of Love" reached number one in the UK. After the dissolution of the Housemartins, Cook moved to Brighton and started the electronic group Beats International, well known for their hit tune "Dub Be Good to Me." Later, he had some success in films like Freak Power, Pizzaman, and the Mighty Dub Katz.
Cook released his debut album as Fatboy Slim, Better Living Through Chemistry, to widespread acclaim in 1996. Singles like "The Rockafeller Skank," "Praise You," "Right Here, Right Now," "Weapon of Choice," and "Wonderful Night," and subsequent albums like "You've Come a Long Way, Baby" and "Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars" also did well.
Cook and many other well-known musicians, including David Byrne, came together in 2008 to form the Brighton Port Authority. The likes of Cornershop, the Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Groove Armada, and Wildchild have all benefited from his skill as a remixer.
