Fabulous Thunderbirds Information
The Fabulous Thunderbirds is an American blues-rock band. The band was formed in 1974 in Texas. The current lineup of the group consists of Nico Leophonte (drums), Steve Gomes (bass), Kevin Anker (keyboards), Johnny Moeller (guitar), and Kim Wilson (vocals and harmonica). Initially, Thunderbirds performed in the Austin, Texas, blues scene for several years. They soon signed a recording contract with Takoma/Chrysalis Records and then signed with Epic Records. The band signed with Severn Records in 2011. In 1979 and 1980, Thunderbirds released its first two albums along with Kim Wilson’s harmonica and lead vocals, Keith Ferguson on bass guitar, and Jimmie Vaughan as lead guitarist.
The Fabulous Thunderbirds released its third album entitled, Butt-Rockin’ in 1981. The album took the band to old blues and Rhythm and added additional musicians playing brass and piano. The group was the first band to be broadcast on the internet using high-definition cameras on February 16, 2000. Invitation Only’s companion DVD is the first high-resolution multi-track track recording featuring a live concert event. In 2001, the companion CD Live! was released.
