Eric Lapointe Information
Éric Lapointe (September 28, 1969) is a Canadian francophone guitarist and lead singer for his band. He was born in Montreal, Quebec. Lapointe requested his father for a toy guitar from a Sears catalog when he was nine years old. Instead, his father gave him a real guitar, and Lapointe quickly picked up how to play chords with the aid of his musician uncle. At the age of ten, he created his first songs, and at the age of 15, he began performing live in France and Quebec.
Lapointe joined the Parti Québécois at 18 after being discovered by Yves-François Blanchet, a previous leader of l'ADISQ, who oversaw the development of his early career. Lapointe began by performing at neighborhood clubs and CEGEPs. Lapointe held additional jobs as a garbage collector, waiter, pool installation technician, and credit card salesman to support his income. The Rolling Stones invited him to open their two shows in Paris in 1995 as part of the Voodoo Lounge Tour, which also featured Bon Jovi. In addition, they performed at the La Rochelle FrancoFolies event with French musician Florent Pagny.
Adrénaline, a double album of 25 live tracks, including a few covers, was released on April 8, 2002. He also contributed to the creation of Le Petit Roi, and his rendition of Jean-Pierre Ferland's "Une chance qu'on s'a" attracted particular attention.
