Eric B and Rakim are a hip-hop duo formed in 1986 in the city of Long Island in New York, composed of Eric Barrier and MC Rakim. Eric B and Rakim were recognized worldwide as the premier DJs or MC team in hip-hop. Eric B and Rakim decided to form a group together under the tutelage of an American DJ and rapper Marley Marl. Their debut album ‘Paid in Full’ was released on July 7, 1987, which was recorded in the Power Play Studio of New York. Their first single that was released in 1986 was called ‘Eric B. Is President.
In the year 1992, the duo Eric B and Rakim decided to concentrate on their solo careers after a legal dispute between them and their label company. Eric B released a self-titled solo album in 1995, and Rakim’s solo album called ‘The 18th Letter’ was released in 1997. Eric Barrier announced on October 20, 2016, that he and Rakim would reunite as a duo soon after a long 23 years hiatus and that they would start a tour in 2017.
Eric B and Rakim’s first reunion concert was held on July 7, 2017, in the Apollo Theatre of New York City. As of June 25, 2019, it was announced by the New York Times that among the several artists whose music material was destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire, one of them was Eric B and Rakim’s.
