Edgar Meyer Information
The likes of Emanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Bela Fleck, Zakir Hussain, Hilary Hahn, and the Emerson String Quartet have all debuted or recorded pieces by Meyer. His first piece, composed solely for orchestra, was commissioned by the Aspen Music Festival and School and premiered by the Nashville Symphony in March 2017. And, of course, Kudos! Overture for Violin and Orchestra commissioned by Vail and The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, performed by Joshua Bell and ASMF in June 2017.
Meyer worked with Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, and Chris Thile on their 2011 album The Goat Rodeo Sessions. In 2013, the record took home two Grammys. In 2015, Meyer won his fifth Grammy for his Bass & Mandolin collaboration with Thile. Meyer, Thile, and Yo-Yo Ma recorded a Bach trio album published in April 2017.
In June 2020, the same band that brought you The Goat Rodeo Sessions dropped their follow-up, dubbed Not Our First Goat Rodeo. Meyer is on the Curtis Institute of Music faculty and the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University. Paul Kowert, the bassist and songwriter for the Punch Brothers, was one of Meyer's students at Curtis.
