Drivin’ N Cryin is an American Southern rock band from Atlanta, Georgia. The group’s current lineup consists of Kevn Kinney, Tim Nielsen, Dave V. Johnson, and Laur Joamets. The band was formed in 1985, and in 1986, Drivin’ N Cryin signed its first record deal with an independent label, 688 Records. The group released its debut album entitled “Scarred But Smarter,” which brought success to the band. It helped the group land many tour dates and a contract deal with Island Records.
Drivin’ N Cryin released an album for Island Records in early 1988 entitled “Whisper Tames The Lion.” The album was produced by Anton Fier and reached 130 on the Billboard 200. In 1989, the group released another album entitled “Mystery Road,” which includes live staples such as “Straight To Hell” and “Honeysuckle Blue.” Drivin’ N Cryin released another studio album in 1991 entitled “Fly Me Courageous,” produced by Geoff Workman. It turned out to be the commercially most successful album for the band and was certified gold.
Drivin’ N Cryin toured with notable artists for a few years, such as Soul Asylum and Neil Young. Their other notable studio albums include Live the Love Beautiful (June 2019), Too Late to Turn Back Now! (July 2018), Best of Songs (April 2016), Songs for the Turntable (January 2014), and Songs from the Psychedelic Time Clock (March 2013).
