Donell Jones Information
Donell Jones (May 22, 1973) is an American record producer, singer, and songwriter born in Chicago, Illinois. He subsequently linked up with Heavy D and The Boyz's DJ Eddie F, eventually signing with Untouchables/LaFace Records and penning singles for Usher and 702. Jones's first album, My Heart, came out in June 1996 under LaFace Records. Though Jones handled most of the album's production, he did get some assistance from Eddie Ferrell's Untouchables Entertainment crew, which included Mookie, Marks Sparks, Kenny Tonge, and Darin Whittington. Although it reached number 30 on Billboard's list of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, it failed to crack the top 50 on the US Billboard 200, suggesting only moderate commercial success.
The publication of Jones's second album, Where I Wanna Be, in 1999 brought him widespread acclaim. With help from the number-seven peaking single "U Know What's Up" on the Billboard Hot 100. To name just a few countries where "U Know What's Up" reached the top ten, we may count Belgium (Flanders), the Republic of Ireland, and the United Kingdom. In the latter, "U Know What's Up" debuted at number two and stayed two weeks there, just behind Manic Street Preachers' "The Masses Against the Classes" and Britney Spears' "Born to Make You Happy."
