Dazz Band Information
The Dazz Band is an American R&B and a funk band founded in 1977 by Bobby Harris. The group originated from Cleveland, Ohio, and gained popularity in the early 1980s. The band's current lineup includes Bobby Harris - Saxophone, clarinet, background vocals; Sennie "Skip" Martin - Trumpet, vocals; Donny Sykes - Lead vocals; Raymond Calhoun- Drums; and Marlon McClain- Guitars. The Dazz Band came into being from the jazz fusion band Bell Telefunk. It was initially named Kinsman Dazz at the suggestion of Ray Calabrese.
The Dazz Band was initially signed to 20th Century Records in 1977, and released its first single, "I Might as Well Forget About Loving You" in 1978. Invitation to Love (1980) was the first album by the group followed by Let The Music Play (1981), featuring the hit single "Knock! Knock!" that reached the Top 50.
"Let It Whip" brought a breakthrough for The Dazz Band, a single included in the Keep It Live (1982) album. The song reached No. 1 on the R&B charts and achieved a Grammy Award. Some of the other notable singles by the band are "Invitation to Love," "On the One for Fun," "Party Right Here," "Swoop (I'm Yours)," "L.O.V.E. M.I.A.," and "Ain't Nuthin' but a Jam Y'all."
The Dazz Band has released many notable albums throughout its career, including Keep It Live, Greatest Hits, Wild & Free, Rock the Room, Under the Streetlights, and Double Exposure. The band has earned many awards, such as the IAAM Diamond Award For Excellence, National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Grammy Award, and a few others.
