Dark Tranquility Information
Dark Tranquillity is a Swedish band that plays melodic death metal. The group was founded in 1989 by then-guitarist and current vocalist Mikael Stanne, along with guitarist Niklas Sundin. Formerly known as Septic Broiler, the band originated from Billdal, Gothenburg. The ensemble’s current lineup consists of Martin Brändström – keyboards, programming; Anders Iwers – bass; Christopher Amott – guitars; Johan Reinholdz – guitars; Anders Jivarp – drums; and Mikael Stanne – vocals. A few past members include Fredrik Johansson, Daniel Antonsson, and Martin Henriksson.
Dark Tranquillity is said to be a pioneering act of the Gothenburg metal scene. The band is regarded as the Gothenburg fathers in Century Media’s film entitled Out of Nothing: A DT Documentary. The documentary was filmed in April 2009, in the group’s home town. The band recorded a demo in 1990, entitled Enfeebled Earth, followed by many more demos such as Trail of Life Decayed in 1991 and Moonclad Reflection in 1992.
Skydancer was the debut album by Dark Tranquillity, released in August 1993. Some of the other notable studio albums by the band are The Gallery (1995), The Mind’s I (1997), Damage Done (2002), We Are the Void (2010), Construct (2013), and Moment (2020). The group also released several live albums, including Where Death Is Most Alive 2009 and For the Fans 2013. Some of the hit EPs by Dark Tranquillity are Of Chaos and Eternal Night 1995 and Zero Distance 2012.
