Daddy Yankee, born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodrguez (February 3, 1977), is a former Puerto Rican rap artist, singer, songwriter, and actor. Other Hispanic urban musicians regularly credit him as an inspiration, and he has earned the title "King of Reggaeton."
He was born in Río Piedras and spent his childhood in the Villa Kennedy Housing Projects area. With the release of "Gasolina" in 2004, Daddy Yankee introduced reggaeton to an international audience and catapulted the music genre to international prominence. Around 30 million albums later, he is one of the most successful Latin music performers ever.
Five Latin Grammys, two Billboard Music Awards, fourteen Billboard Latin Music Awards, two Latin American Music Awards, eight Lo Nuestro Awards, one MTV Video Music Award, and six ASCAP Awards are just some of the many honors Daddy Yankee has received.
Barrio Fino, released by Daddy Yankee in 2000, was the best-selling Latin music album of the decade, selling over 10 million copies between 2000 and 2009. A star on the Puerto Rican Walk of Fame, honors from People en Espanol, and the Presencia Latina from Harvard University were also bestowed upon him. In 2006, he was featured on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
The Yankee and Rauw Alejandro single "Panties y Brasieres' came out on January 26, 2023. In collaboration with Omar Courtz, Yankee dropped the track "Beachy '' on June 2. Yandel's collaboration with Field and Yankee on the tune "Yankee 150" was released on June 16, 2023.
