Cordae Information
Cordae Amari Dunston (August 26, 1997) is an American singer and rapper. His father was a big hip-hop fan, so he was exposed to the music of Rakim, Nas, Big L, and Talib Kweli from an early age, piquing his son's interest in music. Around fifteen, he started creating raps but only did it on the side. Now that he was older, he would look up bands or musicians on YouTube to see if they made music as his dad did.
Since the beginning of 2018, Cordae has been actively pursuing his rapping profession. He met YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay over social media and spent a lot of time with them when he was in Los Angeles, but they never collaborated on any music releases. Nahmir had reached out to Dunston because he liked a song the two brothers had recorded together.
In May 2018, he made his first live performance appearance at the Rolling Loud music festival, where he shared the bill with YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay. After Nahmir was selected as a member of the 2018 XXL Freshman Class, he reunited with the pair to perform at the annual XXL Freshman Show in New York City. Cordae published a music video for a new song titled "Locationships" on his YouTube account on January 28, 2019. He followed it up by releasing a song titled "Have Mercy" in March 2019, which would eventually become the lead single off his debut studio album, The Lost Boy.
