The Brooklyn-based musician describes themselves as a "subversive, queer rapper," their flair for audacity gives their work that particular something. But if you want to put a label on it, Conde is excited to introduce their LGBT identity to hip-hop regardless of how others might perceive it. Conde's desire to convey the often awkward emotions they felt as a child stemmed from their exposure to the slam poetry of Saul Williams, which inspired them to create their vivid tapestry out of words.
Conde's entire nomadic youth was spent moving around because both of their parents were on active duty Air Force and later divorced to marry other people in the military. Their mother's early rejection of their sexuality prompted them to seek nontraditional "solutions" to their sexuality.
In their early to mid-20s, they adopted a "Bible-thumping" Christian lifestyle as a means of self-discovery. Unfortunately, that strategy fell short. They tried drink and drugs, which only worsened things and set them on their current course. A seed was planted in 2006 when they attended their first 12-step group. Despite relapses, in 2014, they were able to get sober and have been dedicated to their sobriety ever since.
