Howard Earl Bailey Jr. (March 9, 1980) is an American rapper, actor, and record producer. He is professionally known as Chingy. He grew up in Walnut Park, St. Louis, Missouri. It was a neighborhood referred to as the “Bad Blocks.” Chingy started writing lyrics at the age of nine. He began recording raps when he was ten years old. Chingy was known as H Thugz at the time. He was also a part of the St. Louis group called Without Warning on 49 Productions and M.G.D and Mysphit. He attended McCluer North High School in Florissant, Missouri, located in St. Louis. Chingy was known to his friends as “Howie” while in high school. He continued to prefer that name from close friends and family for a long time.
On July 15, 2003, Chingy released his debut album, Jackpot. The album was released through Disturbing the Peace. The guest appearances on the album included Jermaine Dupri, Trina, Tity Boi of Playaz Circle, Raindrop, I-20, Murphy Lee, Snoop Dogg, and Ludacris. The album did well and received critical acclaim. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA in less than a year of its release.
On November 16, 2004, Chingy released his second album entitled Powerballin through Slot-A Records and Capitol Records. The album reached number 10 on the charts and featured the hit single entitled “Balla Baby.” Artists who made guest appearances on the album include Get It Boyz, Nate Dogg, David Banner, Janet Jackson, Lil Flip, Lil Wayne, Bun B, and R. Kelly.
