Capital Jazz Orchestra Information
One of the few truly professional jazz bands, the Capital Jazz Orchestra performs regularly and tours the country. Alums from other orchestras, such as Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, and Artie Shaw, and more modern ensembles, such as Toshiko Akiyoshi and Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, have frequently filled out the orchestra.
The Capital Jazz Orchestra has shared the stage with Butch Miles, Ms. Carmen Bradford (Count Basie's Grammy-winning vocalist), and Ms. Clairdee (a San Francisco vocalist). On their 2013 North American tour, the orchestra paid tribute to the "75th Anniversary of the 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert of Benny Goodman" by performing works by Goodman and other jazz greats, with the assistance of Goodman alumni such as Ken Peplowski.
The Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, New Hampshire, is where you can catch the orchestra presenting works like a winter pops concert with all your favorite holiday songs, an homage to Frank Sinatra, and a Spring concert full of swing music.
