Élie Yaffa (December 9, 1976) is a French rapper known by his stage name, Booba. He was born in Sevres, France. In 1994, he and his friend Ali founded the band Lunatic. Due to their contentious lyrics, they could not sign a record deal with a major label, so in 1999 they founded their own independent record company, 45 Scientific. The next year, Lunatic issued Mauvais oeil, its debut, and sole album.
Booba's first solo album, Temps mort, was released in 2002. He released four more albums after that: Panthéon, Ouest Side (which was the most popular), 0.9, and Lunatic. He released his sixth solo album, Futur, around 2012. Booba has ten certified CDs in total, six of which are Disques d'Or (Gold albums), three of which are Disques de Platine (Platinum albums), and one of which is a Double Disque de Platine (Double-Platinum album). Booba defeated well-known performers, including Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Sexion D'Assaut, Shakira, Stromae, and many more, to win the "My Youtube" competition in 2011.
Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, 2Pac, and Biggie Smalls were among the American hip-hop artists who impacted Booba in the late 1980s and early 1990s. You can hear the gritty lyrics and dark melodies typical of New York rap on each of his albums.
