Bobby V, born Bobby Marcel Wilson, is an American actor, singer, and songwriter from Jackson, Mississippi. At an early age, Wilson moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he frequently would listen to the music of Tony! Toni! Toné!, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Jodeci, and The Isley Brothers. According to him, these artists were behind his plan to become an R&B singer. His music is defined as R&B, hip hop, and soul.
Wilson made his entry into the music scene in 1996 when he became a member of the R&B youth quartet Mista. The band released its self-titled debut album, which produced one of the hit singles named “Blackberry Molasses.” Later in 1997, the band split, and Wilson enrolled in Clark Atlanta University from where he majored in Mass Communication.
Bobby Valentino was the debut album by Wilson that was released in the spring of 2005. The album became gold certified by RIAA for selling over 708,000 copies in the United States. His first single, “Slow Down,” became a Top 10 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and it received a large amount of radio and TV airplay. Some of his other notable studio albums are Special Occasion (2007), The Rebirth (2009), Fly on the Wall (2011), Dusk Till Dawn (2012), and Electrik (2018).
Wilson appeared in a hit TV movie named Hollywood Hearts in 2016. He has earned many awards for his music, such as the 2009 Urban Music Award for Best Male Artist and Best R&B Act; 2006 NAACP Image Award, 2006 Soul Train Music Awards, 2005 Vibe Award; and BMI Award.
