Billy Howerdel Information
Billy Howerdel (May 18, 1970) is an American musician. He was born in New Jersey. At West Milford High School, where he was a student, he participated in athletics, developed an interest in a television production class, and was involved in an after-school audio program.
This course set the stage for his post-high-school audio-technical studies and career as a prominent guitar technician. High school teacher and program adviser Stephen Porcello took Howerdel to New York City to pick his first electric guitar.
Howerdel, who first met Tool guitarist Maynard James Keenan in 1992, served as the band's guitar technician throughout the Nima tour and album sessions. Howerdel had played Keenan some of his songs at the time, and Keenan had offered to sing with a band if Howerdel ever decided to put one together. Howerdel would finally accept Keenan's offer, even though she had considered a female vocalist at first.
Howerdel has performed sometimes with Abandoned Pools in concert. In 2005, he composed and recorded the soundtrack for the video game Jak X: Combat Racing, which also features contributions from Josh Freese, Atom Willard, Joey Castillo, and Wes Borland, as well as remixes of his songs by Danny Lohner and Dean Menta.
