Big Sandy Information
Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys is a swing and rockabilly band. The group's current lineup consists of Kevin Stewart, Ricky McCann, Ashley Kingman, and Robert Williams, a.k.a Big Sandy. Rockabilly, Western swing, folk, bluegrass, Cajun, mariachi, rock & roll, folk-rock, swing, and country are among the band's many influences.
Williams grew up listening to his parents' jump blues records. He later played with neo-rockabilly bands in southern California in the 1980s before creating the Fly-Rite Boys as a trio in 1988. After two albums as Big Sandy & the Fly-Rite Trio, the band extended its lineup and released Jumping from 6 to 6 in 1994, their official debut studio album.
The next year, the band produced Swingin' West, their second album, which contained more pronounced Western swing influences than its debut. After releasing Feelin' Kinda Lucky, the band went on hiatus and released the instrumental album Big Sandy Presents the Fly-Rite Boys in 1998. This was followed by Big Sandy's solo album Dedicated to You, a cover album of R&B and doo-wop songs, before reuniting in 1999 to record the EP Radio Favorites. The Rockabilly Hall of Fame recognized the band.
