Antonio Hardy (September 10, 1968) is an American rapper. He is professionally known by his stage name, Big Daddy Kane. He was born in New York City. Kane made friends with Biz Markie in 1984, and the two collaborated on some of Biz's most well-known lyrics. Both subsequently became key members of the Queens-based Juice Crew, which legendary producer Marley Marl leads. Kane signed with Tyrone Williams' (Marl's manager) and Len Fichtelberg's Cold Chillin' Records label in 1987 and made his breakthrough with the underground hit "Raw" the following year.
Kane is well-known for his ability to syncopate over faster hip hop beats, and despite his asthma, he is regarded as one of the first masters of fast rhyming. His sense of style is legendary, and he pioneered several hip-hop styles in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His title is commonly referred to as "King Asiatic Nobody's Equal."
In the early summer of 1988, Kane released his debut album, Long Live the Kane, on Cold Chillin' Records, which included the single "Ain't No Half Steppin'." It's a Big Daddy Thing, Kane's second album and biggest hit to date was released the following year, with 1970s sample throwbacks like "Smooth Operator" and Teddy Riley-produced tune "I Get the Job Done," which reached the R&B Top 40 in the late 1980s.
