Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is a prominent swing revival band from Ventura, California. After playing on the outskirts of the California music scene for several years, they signed with Capitol Records in 1997. They began to gain national attention around the United States. They first appeared during the Superbowl in 1999 and have since appeared on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno and the reality show "Dancing With the Stars."
The band presents a good-time image playing vibrant swing music, but its success is based on solid, high-quality musicianship. This has resulted in invitations to appear with leading American orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, on their respective programs. The band started in 1989 under guitarist Scotty Morris.
When asked where the band got its name, Morris says it came from a meeting with blues icon Albert Collins, who scrawled "To Scotty, the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy" on Moore's show poster. The band boasts nine studio albums under credit and has had commercial success with the hits "Go Daddy-O' and "Mr Pinstripe Suit."
